Editorial responsibility

CompatRef is independently operated. The site operator is responsible for researching sources, entering compatibility records, reviewing classifications, and correcting reported errors.

CompatRef does not present manufacturer, retailer, marketplace seller, or affiliate claims as its own testing results.

How compatibility data is collected

Compatibility information may be collected from:

  1. Official manufacturer product pages
  2. Official accessory and replacement-part pages
  3. Manufacturer support documents and parts catalogs
  4. Official regional manufacturer stores
  5. Authorized or established retailer listings
  6. Independent retailer listings used for corroboration

Each compatibility record should identify the source used and the date on which the evidence was checked.

Source priority

Sources are evaluated in the following order:

  1. An official manufacturer source naming the exact model and exact part
  2. An official manufacturer statement covering a clearly defined series
  3. An official part page connecting models across product families
  4. Multiple independent retailer sources agreeing on the exact model and part
  5. Insufficient evidence, recorded as Unknown

An exact manufacturer model list takes priority over a product title, family name, retailer category, or similar-looking model number.

No compatibility by assumption

CompatRef does not mark a part as compatible solely because:

  • Two models have similar names
  • Models belong to the same product family
  • A part looks physically similar
  • Models were released during the same period
  • A marketplace title contains broad keyword claims
  • Another compatible model appears technically related

When reliable evidence is unavailable, the result remains Unknown.

Compatibility classifications

CompatRef uses the following classifications:

  • Compatible — reliable evidence confirms that the part fits the model
  • Not compatible — a source explicitly excludes the model or limits compatibility to other models
  • Conditional — compatibility depends on purchase date, market, hardware revision, or another stated condition
  • Unknown — available evidence does not reliably confirm compatibility or incompatibility

Unknown does not mean incompatible. It means that CompatRef could not verify the relationship with sufficient confidence.

Review process

Records are reviewed for:

  • Exact model-number matching
  • Exact part number or SKU matching
  • Source authority
  • Conflicting manufacturer and retailer claims
  • Regional or revision-specific conditions
  • Explicit exclusions
  • Source availability
  • Date of verification

Family pages are aggregated from individual model records. A family page does not independently create compatibility claims.

Independence from affiliate revenue

Commercial relationships do not determine whether a part is classified as Compatible, Not compatible, Conditional, or Unknown.

A compatibility record may exist without a purchasing link, and a purchasing link may be withheld when the destination or product identity cannot be matched reliably.

Readers can report suspected errors, missing evidence, broken source links, or outdated records by emailing corrections@compatref.com.

Reports are evaluated against the same evidence standards used for existing records.
